Author, Columnist and On-air Personality
John's media career has included print as well as radio and television. His on-air career began in 1988 as a radio/TV talk-show host and on-air personality with Chubu Broadcasting Corporation.
John established himself as one of only a few non-Japanese columnists to have their own weekly column (in Japanese) spanning over ten continuous years in national newspapers in Japan. A very talented writer and speaker, he soon found himself in demand as a TV / radio commentator and on-air personality.
From 1993 to 2000, John was a very popular media personality in Japan appearing on all of the major broadcast stations in Japan as well as appearing in multi-national commercials.
John was the host for the Japanese National Broadcasting Network (NHK) program, "Meeting people of the earth" (2001 - 2002), and was the host of the TV program "Voice of AICHI", as well as numerous documentary programs dealing with nature and family.
Although he has pared back his on-air work in lieu of other pursuits, John still appears on various programs, notably NHK's Science View.
Gathright is also an award winning author of nine popular books and continues to write, give speeches
and make TV appearances in Japan and internationally.
